Karen Al Khina
I am an Occupational Therapist with more than 20 years experience in the field of paediatrics and special needs. I work with both adults and children, but primarily with children with diverse needs, including those with complex, severe and profound physical and learning disabilities, complex neurological and neuromuscular disorders (e g cerebral palsy and muscular dystrophies), Dyspraxia / Developmental Coordination Disorder, Sensory Integration or sensory processing dysfunction, Developmental Trauma and Sensory Attachment difficulties, Acquired Brain Injuries (ABIs), ADHD, Asperger’s and Autism.
RMT is invaluable in my ‘therapy toolbox’, and a treatment modality that I have been able to use, and has been beneficial for, even the most complex and profoundly disabled child. RMT, in combination with more conventional or targeted OT interventions, allows me to create a complementary, more effective and holistic approach to treatment, and one that addresses the all important foundational and early developmental building blocks that are integral to everyone’s (not just children’s) functioning and well-being.
